What to expect

How it works
Reserve with the parks department; pay a fee and sometimes a deposit. Tables are usually built in. Power, restrooms and parking vary by park. Many parks restrict amplified sound, bounce houses and alcohol.
How much to plan
Check posted pavilion capacity; Houston city permits change above 250 public attendees.
  • Outdoors only

Styles to choose from

  • City of Houston park

Permit through Houston Parks; moonwalks need a permit and insurance.

  • Harris County park

Precinct pavilions are cheap; reservations open 7-45 days ahead.

Hermann Park and similar charge more and have stricter rules.

What we'll ask you

Your request asks a few quick things, so vendors can price it right:

  1. Which park pavilion styles interest you?City of Houston park, Harris County park, Conservancy park
  2. Do you have a park in mind?
  3. How many guests will this serve?
  4. Will you bring any of these?Bounce house, DJ or speakers, Alcohol, Grill, Generator

Houston notes

  • City of Houston parks ban water moonwalks, dunk tanks and water slides; regular moonwalks need a park permit and insurance naming the City. Hermann Park bans moonwalks, DJs, amplified sound and generators. Harris County Pct 4 allows alcohol only with a reservation and constable security.
  • Houston storms pop up fast in spring and summer. Ask the vendor about their rain and wind policy, and have a backup spot.
  • This can need a city, park, fire or sound permit, or the venue's OK. Check before you book.

Doing it yourself? Pavilions are already the DIY option; bring folding tables, a cooler and a canopy.
